Aims of the Union

The Past Student’s Union serves as a vital link between all past students of the College worldwide   1. To promote contact between past students  2. To engage in missionary and social work   3. To take an active interest in matters concerning Home Economics
1. To promote contact between past students, in 1950, an editorial committee was set up to produce a bulletin called ‘Beanati’ and 1952 saw the first issue published. This was replaced in 1972 by a Newsletter which was published each year and sent to all past students at home and abroad. An Annual Reunion was held in the College each year in May and always attracted a large attendance including those who had been graduated from the College for 10years, 25 years and 50 years.
2. In missionary and social work the committee supported the education of a student for the Dominican Priesthood in India.
In the past it provided classes in Dublin’s inner City, organized competitions for schools and provided funding for charities including ‘Handicapped Children’s pilgrimage to Lourdes. A Benevolent Fund was available for past students who may for whatever reason have need of assistance at some time and Masses were offered regularly for deceased past students and families
3. In taking an active role in matters concerning Home Economics, the Union is a member of The International Federation for Home Economics – I.F.H.E. and the Irish I.F.H.E Coordinating committee. The Union made submissions to the Department of Education on education issues as and when necessary and Sr Helen and Sr Maura were instrumental in introducing the Irish Government to become involved in celebrating the UN International Year of the Family.
The Union no longer meets and will continue assistance through the webiste. All emails will be answered promptly.

The India Mission wishes to thank the past students of St. Catherine's for their generous financial assistance through the years. The Mission is now thriving and is witnessing a great increase in novices to the religious life.

On  the feast of St Dominic August 8th 1998, the Indian adventure was established as a fully autonomous, Independent Province.

For those of you who may not know about the work of the Dominican’s in the Nagpur area of India,
Up to 2000 the seminary had trained and ordained 800 Indian diocesan priests, four of whom are Bishops.  Simultaneously the work of the Dominican Order with a house of studies in Nagpur, a novitiate in Pachmari,160 miles away, and a pre-novitiate in Mangalore is ongoing.
Today there are twelve Dominican communities and hundred and thirty religious, sixty sev
en of whom are priests. : http://www.dominicansindia.com/History/friars.htm
