The Union
The Past Student’s Union was set up in 1950 by a group of graduates among them   Sheila Hurley, who became the first President.
From then right up to 2007, the Union has been a contact point for graduates.   Many graduates have over the years, given their time generously and tirelessly to uphold the aims of the Union.

The Future of The Union

Very many graduates have over the years have given their time generously and tirelessly to uphold the aims of the Union.
What the future hold for the Union remains to be decided.  The College is no longer available as a base for meetings and reunions or as an address for the Union post.  With this in mind we have provided email addresses and tel numbers for you to contact committee members in the future.

Student Photographs 1929-2007

With the imminent closure of the College, the union undertook to collect all photographs and name each student in them. This took a lot of time and perseverance but in the end there is a wonderful collection all now safely cataloged and will be archived. The albums are available for viewing at present but why not have the complete collection at home so that you can view this at your leisure.

If you attended St Catherine's as a student your photo is included in this collection.

Aims
The Past Student’s Union serves as a vital link between all past students of the College worldwide

To promote contact between past students

To engage in missionary and social work

To take an active interest in matters concerning Home Economics

1. To promote contact between past students, in 1950, an editorial committee was set up to produce a bulletin – ‘ Beanati’ and 1952 saw the first issue published. This was replaced in 1972 by a Newsletter, which is published each year since then and is sent to all Past students at home and abroad and An Annual Reunion has been held in the College each May and attended mainly by those who had been graduated from the College for 10years, 25 years and 50 years.

2. In missionary and social work the committee supports the education of a student for the Dominican Priesthood in India.
In the past it provided classes in Dublin’s inner City, organized competitions for schools and provided funding for charities including ‘Handicapped Children’s pilgrimage to Lourdes.
A Benevolent Fund was available for past students who may for whatever reason have need of assistance at some time and Masses were offered regularly for deceased past students and families

In taking an active role in matters concerning Home Economics, the Union is a member of The International Federation for Home Economics – I.F.H.E. and the Irish I.F.H.E Coordinating committee. And has made submissions to the Department of Education on education issues as and when it was necessary.
