E Book on Sustainable developement 2007

The Programme Committee Consumer Issues and Family Resource Management developed an e-book on "Global Sustainable Development: A Challenge for Consumer Citizens" It brings together many perspectives on Sustainable Development from all over the world.   The e-book is available as a CD which includes 93 contributions representing 48 countries.

The e-book was published in cooperation with CDVEC (Curriculum Development Unit Ireland). The e-book was launched in Lucerne, Switzerland, on Thursday, 29thJuly, at the IFHE Congress. Phase one of the book was launched in Lucerne at Congress in 2008. Contributiond are now being sought for the next phase. Please submit by 15th May 2010

ATHE - Association for teachers of Home Economics

The Association of Home Economics Teachers (ATHE) is a national organisation, which aims to provide a medium of expression for the collective opinions of members on matters affecting Home Economics and to promote Home Economics in education and society.

 IFHE Council meeting IFHE Council meeting will take place in St Angela's College Sligo in July 2010.

The theme is “Vision 2020: Home Economics, Changing Perspectives in a Changing Environment” which will be focused in the three areas of contemporary concern within Home Economics and Home Economics Education: Sustainability, Globalization and Interculturalism. See details on www.ifhe2010.com

Home Economists in Business- HEIB

HEIB was set up in 1985 and is affiliated to IFHE, members are employed in business or working in related areas in industry.   Several events are held each year, the last two events were a ‘Food trail of Dublin’ in October and Christmas lunch in The Silk Road Café in Chester Beatty Library in Dublin Castle.

HEIB would like to extend a welcome to all past students of Catherine’s to join.  This is an opportunity to meet up with other Home Economists on a couple of occasions a year.

IFHE Development Fund 2008. In 2004 and 2008 IFHE development fund grant aided Home Economics projects in developing countries that are organized to benefit their local community.As part of a fundraising drive Carolyn Blount from Seattle made a quilt with patchwork squares sent in by  IFHE members around the World. The quilt raffled at Congress in 2008 included 12 squares from  Ireland. As well as the International quilt, HEIB members together with past students of St Catherines and with the aid of the Drogheda quilters also made a quilt - see pictures . The quilt was displayed at Congress in Lucerne and later raised €2000 for the Fr Declan Collins project in South Africa.
