The College. The College opened as a Training College for Teachers of Domestic Science by the Dominican Order in September 1929. In 1971 the College became known as St Catherine’s College of Home Economics and later still as St Catherine’s College of Education for Home Economics.
The history of the College is available in a Publication “Historical and Contemporary Reflections“St Catherine’s College of Education for Home Economics, Sion Hill 1929-2007. This book launched in 2007 contains articles on the history of education of Home Economics in Ireland and is extremely interesting. It contains articles by members off staff and past students remembering how things were in their time. It was a worthwhile undertaking and contains information which many past students were unaware. The Dominican nuns were much more generous with their time and recourses than many graduates could have known. The book also contains a list all graduates so if you attended the College your name will be included.
